SUBWAY
Doing something you’ve never done before is one of my favourite parts of my job. Sure, shot reverse-shot character dialogue is fun. But trying to generate an effect for the first time - a true technical riddle - just gets me excited. Here, we had to conceive of and design a rig that would yield the exact food SFX our director / the agency creatives had in mind, despite having no idea what that rig should be. So we rolled up our sleeves, brought in the MacGyver of rig specialists (Rudy Levinka, for what it’s worth), and experimented and experimented, until we got the “performance” out the sandwich ingredients we were after. It certainly helps that Rudy has a battalion of 3D printers in his basement. Anyone who says tabletop shoots are boring has never tried to make lettuce and tomato separate a 500 fps. I swear I’ve never heard a studio shout with glee more loudly than during that first playback.
